Family Ministry Volunteer
It takes a church family to grow disciples! Join us in serving our kids, students, and families. No matter your schedule or skill set—whether you can serve weekly, monthly, or for special events—your time, talents, and witness can make an eternal difference in someone’s faith journey.
How can I help?
At Cokes Chapel UMC, here are just a few opportunities in which you may lend your time, talents, and witness to family ministry:
- Nursery
- Children’s Church
- Youth Group
- Cokes Chapel Childcare Center Chapel
- Vacation Bible School
- Trunk or Treat
- Christmas Program
- Easter Egg Block Party
- The Well
- Childcare during adult bible studies
If you are interested in volunteering for any of these events or programs, please e-mail our Director of Family Ministry at melissa.smith@cokeschapelumc.com. All volunteers must undergo a background check and training, which includes the review of our Safer Sanctuaries policy.

Safer Sanctuaries
Safer Sanctuaries is the movement and initiative across The United Methodist Church to fulfill the call upon us—to make our churches safe places for the young, the vulnerable, and those in ministry with them.
Our churches, as communities of faith, should be safe havens and sanctuaries where children, youth, and vulnerable adults can be confirmed and strengthened in the way that leads to eternal life. Churches should be a place where everyone knows they will find safety and support for all God’s people.
David Kinnaman, president of The Barna Group, is more pointed: “Our research consistently shows that how a church treats children is one of the keys to drawing and retaining new families. Sadly, churches expose themselves to all kinds of potential problems by failing to screen the people who will have contact with and responsibility for the children of strangers during church events. There is a level of trust that newcomers as well as long-time members place in the capacity of a church to provide comprehensive care for their children.”
Cokes Chapel UMC is committed to keeping our community safe. In alignment with The United Methodist Church, we have established Safer Sanctuaries policies and procedures to protect our children and vulnerable individuals. These guidelines apply to all staff and family ministry volunteers.
Family Ministry Training
In compliance with The United Methodist Church, all volunteers must complete a background check, required training, and a signed attestation form before serving. This routine process ensures that Cokes Chapel UMC remains a safe, loving, and secure environment for all of our members and visitors to learn and grow in their faith.
